Beyond the powerful speeches and calls to action, May Day 2025 for the Botswana Mine Workers Union also encompassed a vibrant celebration of unity and solidarity, culminating in an exciting Grand Raffle Draw. This event, under the theme “Kemo ya Babereki, Setshaba Popagano le Maduo!” (Unity, Solidarity, and Rewards!), was a testament to the strong community spirit within the union.
The BMWU extended its heartfelt gratitude to all members and allies who joined in honouring workers on this significant day. The celebration provided an opportunity for comrades to connect, reinforce their bonds, and enjoy a moment of camaraderie, recognizing that collective strength is built on both shared struggles and shared joy.
A highlight of the festivities was the highly anticipated raffle draw, designed to bring an element of excitement and reward to the union’s dedicated members. The BMWU proudly announced the winners, extending warm congratulations to:
- Ronica S Ntsimako, who won a grand prize of A Buck (Phoko).
- Thato Modisana, who won a Wether (Pholo). The union extended a special note to Thato Modisana to contact the BMWU office to claim their prize, as direct contact had not been successful.
- Kenaleone Chibgah, who won a traditional Tswana Chicken.
The BMWU reinforced its core message: “Stay united, stay strong – and see you at the next celebration!” This blend of advocacy and community engagement underscores the union’s holistic approach to member welfare, fostering a sense of belonging and appreciation alongside its critical work on labour rights.
